SAGIS renewed its long-standing agreement with BinaryBus.

The Savannah Area Geographical Information Services (SAGIS) renewed its long-standing agreement with BinaryBus, Ltd to continue providing web hosting and management services for the SAGIS web site through June 2004. This site delivers free access to all of Chatham County’s and the City of Savannah’s property data over the World Wide Web in an easy to use web application called MapIT. The SAGIS web site is found at www.sagis.org.

Last month, 35,000 citizens visited the SAGIS web site. This number has grown from 15,000 a year ago. Typically, visitors include realtors, land developers, businesses, and local residents interested in gathering property data, zoning information and voting precincts. Using the SAGIS web site saves citizens time and money by not having to go to the land records department and the local government saves in labor and departmental overhead.

BinaryBus, LTD is located in Atlanta and specializes in geographical information systems (GIS). Ron Mulberry, President of BinaryBus said that he is especially pleased to be able to continue providing this service because SAGIS was their first customer in 1998 and the first organization in Georgia to provide its citizens with a GIS web site designed to provide county wide property data.

SAGIS was formally organized in 1996 in conjunction with the City if Savannah, Chatham County, The Metropolitan Planning Commission and the Southern Company. John Brannen, SAGIS Director says that he is very happy with the way BinaryBus continuously improves the SAGIS website and responds to their needs. Brannen says that future site enhancements may include crime statistics and emergency management information and other useful information.
